One-of-a-kind handmade sterling silver ring featuring an extraordinary natural opal cabochon.
This stone immediately caught my attention because there seems to be something different happening every time it moves. The translucent body shows fiery orange, red, lavender, blue and occasional green flashes, along with dramatic natural mineral inclusions suspended within the stone.
The high-domed cabochon gives the opal tremendous depth. From one angle it looks almost crystal clear; from another, the internal orange and rust-colored formations appear to float beneath the surface.
I received this stone as part of an older collection from my father-in-law, so its original mine or geographic source is unknown. Based on its appearance, it may be Mexican-type included or matrix opal, but I am listing it simply as natural opal rather than claiming a specific locality.
I built the ring by hand in sterling silver, creating a substantial bezel setting that protects the stone while leaving the dramatic dome fully visible.
