FROM SLAB TO FINISHED JEWELRY — BY ONE MAKER
These earrings didn’t begin as purchased cabochons. I cut them myself from the natural turquoise slab shown in the photographs, shaped and polished the stones, then fabricated their individual fine-silver settings by hand. The workshop photographs show the actual slab from which this pair was created.

These one-of-a-kind turquoise stud earrings began with a large slab of natural turquoise that was gemologically identified before I cut and shaped the stones by hand.

Rather than using commercially produced cabochons and standard manufactured settings, I cut the individual stones myself and built each setting around its particular shape. The result is a deliberately organic pair: closely matched, but not machine-identical.

Each turquoise stone is surrounded by my hand-worked, textured bezel design, giving the earrings a rugged, sculptural character while allowing that intense natural blue to remain the focus.

The original turquoise slab was identified by Eastern Gemological Laboratory of India as natural turquoise. The laboratory report pertains to the original 278-carat slab from which these stones were cut; the finished earrings themselves have not been independently laboratory certified.

Because these are made entirely by hand, you will see small variations between the two earrings. Those differences are part of the piece—not manufacturing defects. No two stones cut from the slab have exactly the same character, and I don’t try to make handmade jewelry look machine-produced.

These earrings are for someone who wants the maker’s hand to remain visible in the finished piece.
